01What a record and a certificate mean
A SWLEF record states that, on the review date shown, specified evidence was submitted by a specified company and assessed under the published Evidence Review Methodology, with the outcome displayed. A certificate is a signed snapshot of such a record. Neither is:
- a copyright registration, deposit or other legal formality. Copyright arises automatically on creation under the Berne Convention and national law; SWLEF registration neither creates nor is required for any right;
- a finding of a court, tribunal or authority about who owns a work or what a contract means;
- a licence, a permission or an authorisation to use a work;
- a statement that a platform has accepted, will accept or must accept the record for any purpose;
- a guarantee that the submitted documents are genuine, although they were examined under the methodology.
Statuses change. A record that is verified today may be disputed, expired, reclassified or withdrawn tomorrow when new evidence or decisions appear. Only the live page at swlef.com/verify shows the current state; a printed or saved certificate does not.
02Independence
SWLEF is a private registry operated from Geneva, Switzerland. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, certified by or acting for any government, intellectual-property office, customs authority, court, collecting society, broadcaster or platform, and it does not host the content it records. References to platforms, rights-management tools and public offices are descriptive only; the Platform Disclaimer applies.
03No legal, financial or professional advice
The Service, its documentation, its review summaries and its correspondence are informational. They do not constitute legal advice, do not create a lawyer–client relationship and must not be relied upon as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional admitted in the relevant jurisdiction. Rights, remedies, notice requirements and limitation periods differ from country to country.
04Accuracy of information
SWLEF takes reasonable care to keep the Service accurate and current. Nevertheless, information may be incomplete, outdated or contain errors — in particular catalogue metadata obtained from public sources (titles, years, posters, production companies, labels), which is shown as received and labelled as a public metadata reference. Rights holders may request corrections at any time via the notices procedure; corrections are recorded in the audit trail.
05Third-party content and links
Posters, artwork, trademarks and company names displayed in the registry belong to their respective owners and are shown for identification only. Links to third-party websites, platforms and streaming services are provided for convenience; SWLEF has no control over, and accepts no responsibility for, their content, availability, security or policies.
06Availability and security
SWLEF aims for continuous availability but does not guarantee it. Maintenance, failures of infrastructure or of third-party providers, attacks and force majeure may interrupt the Service. Protected viewing, watermarks and screenshot deterrents reduce but cannot eliminate the risk of copying; absolute prevention of screenshots is technically impossible on any platform.
07Liability
The Service and every record, status and certificate are provided “as is” and “as available”. Liability is limited as set out in section 13 of the Terms of Service; nothing in this notice limits liability that cannot be limited under mandatory Swiss law.
08Reporting errors or misuse
If you believe a record is inaccurate, that a certificate is being misused, or that a person is misrepresenting a SWLEF status, write to dmca@swlef.com with the registry ID and your evidence. Reports are acknowledged automatically with a case reference and handled under the Appeals, Disputes & Notices Policy.
